Remote Photoshoot Tutorial

Since 2020, Shutter Studio has enabled photographers to work remotely around the world. This exciting opportunity has allowed many photographers to grow their businesses and take them to the next level by reaching new clients through remote shoots.

In this short tutorial you will see how easy it is to begin your Virtual photography journey. We checked that it takes no more than 5 minutes to create a profile and to conduct a virtual shoot. To be honest, our founder did it a few times even faster (3 minutes). Of course, we are not here to set records but it is really that easy.

So, what Virtual Photoshoot is?
In a few words, it's like a magic video call! During this call with your client you chat and direct the shoot and control camera settings, switch between cameras and take pictures directly with a phone's camera in JPEG or even in RAW (iOS and Android phones).

The feature to shoot RAW is available as a part of the subscription plan (you can upgrade it in your profile settings (Click on your avatar > Subscription > Manage your subscription and billing details > Choose the plan)

Your client doesn't need any special equipment, just to install the Shutter App on their phone (iOS or Android) and that is basically it. They don't even need a tripod, phone can be set up with simple things they can have around.

How to do it?
Photographer signs up for Shutter Studio account at https://web.theshutter.app/ to get access to the platform. You can do it from the computer or laptop with the Chrome or Safari browser and you can use it from your phone through your mobile browser.

Model shares with the photographer the ID number from the Shutter App they installed on their phone, it is a 9-digit number on the main screen of the app.

Once the photographer gets the ID number from their model they can start the shoot!

Photographer needs to login to their profile and then press on "Start new session" in the upper left corner, enter client/model's ID number and press start to send a request for a shoot.

Model will receive an invitation in the app on their phone.

The shoot will start when model accepts an invitation to the shoot. This is what model will see on their screen, they will need to press on "Begin session".

When the connection is established the photoshoot will begin! Take a look at the photographer's screen:

The photographer has got a lot of tools to work with the pictures during the shoot:

  • Switch between the cameras on model’s phone
  • Shoot in JPEG or RAW*
  • Three ways to focus (auto, by click and manual)
  • Exposure control
  • White balance
  • The grid
  • Turn on the webcam when you will need your model to see you
  • Photographer can check the previews to be sure that everything is good!

A few important things
After the shoot all the pictures will upload from the app to photographer’s profile. The pictures will be available only to the photographer.

The quality of video stream doesn't affect the quality of pictures. The quality of the photos will be as high as smartphone's camera supports.

Security notice
The access to the cameras, microphone and speakers is provided for the time of the session only. After the Shutter Studio app is closed, the access to cameras, mic and speakers is restricted automatically.
