Remote photoshoots via Shutter Studio can open up new opportunities for photographers to expand their client base and work with clients from all over the world.
Basically, the only requirements for a remote photoshoot are a mobile phone (either an Android or iPhone), the Shutter Studio app, a stable internet connection, and a photographer.
Let's take a closer look at the equipment and tools required for a remote photoshoot. While it's true that a phone, an app, internet connection, and a photographer are the basic essentials, there are additional factors to consider to ensure the success of the shoot.
WHAT TO PREPARE FROM PHOTOGRAPHER'S SIDE
1. Photographer needs to have a Shutter Studio account, create it here: web.theshutter.app (from a desktop or mobile)
2. To start a remote shoot, photographer needs to have the ID number from the app on model's phone
HOW TO PREPARE YOUR MODEL'S PHONE
Fell free to share the link with your client, it will lead them to the app on App Store or Google Play: https://start.theshutter.app/
Before the remote shoot, remind your subjects to charge their phones to 100% and ensure they have at least 5-7GB of free space.
Your model needs to place the phone on a stable surface during the photoshoot to avoid blurry or shaky images. There are several ways for that:
- A tripod with phone mount
- Someone who can hold the phone. Maybe a friend or anyone who will be happy to help.
- Get creative with a trainer shoe (you can put the phone inside) or a tin of beans with an elastic
One more tip if there is a tripod but isn't high enough: A few boxes, a pile of books, a chair or anything else that can be found around, can be used to put a phone on top and get the perfect height for the shot!
INTERNET CONNECTION
The remote shoot can take place outside and inside. You just need to be sure that your model will have at least 4G (or better).
A Pro tip: if you are planning a shoot it is always great to have a test shoot before the actual date of the photoshoot. Just connect with your client for a few minutes to see if the connection is good enough.
These are the basic things for the remote shoot: we have a phone with an app, we discussed the options of how our client will prop up the phone and ensured that there will be a good internet connection on location.
A FEW MORE HELPFUL THINGS
For outdoor shoots use wireless earphones and don't forget that it would be good to have a power bank
The model MUST KEEP THE APP and not to delete it after the shoot! It is incredibly important that the model keeps the app on their phone until all of the photos have uploaded to photographer's profile!
